The Sky at Night planted a seed in the imagination of a small child, that child had a cheap telescope as a present, and disappointment was forthcoming. My expectations were higher than reality and I became disheartened at the prospect of ever seeing more than the moon. Many, many years later I watched an old episode, and my curiosity led me to Ebay.

£50 later and I have 2 telescopes - a 76mm tabletop (windowsill) newtonian reflector and a 114mm newtonian reflector, nothing too big as I will have to travel to get to dark skies. This is astronomy on a budget.
